Ubuntu DDE 20.04 LTS

UbuntuDD is a remix flavor of the Ubuntu system, along with the Deepin Desktop Environment (DDE). Ubuntu is a Linux distribution based on Ubuntu that has the most beautiful desktop environment. The initial version of this will be the UbuntuDDE Remix 20.04 Focus, which will be supported by the UbuntuDD community. New Ubuntu DDE 20.04 LTS

Ubuntu is getting a new remixed version that is absolutely fantastic. In this article, I will take you to the Brand new Ubuntu DDE 20.04 LTS version. The magnificent Deepin Desktop environment is now available with the stability and trust of Ubuntu.

Deepin is a Linux distro famous for its beautiful and homegrown desktop environment that became very popular with the Linux community. While many people wanted to experience and enjoy this fantastic desktop, not many of us did. Not many of us were able to, due to an unfortunate controversy involving the security of user personal data that is based in China.

If you were one of those who really liked Deepin desktop and wanted to use it, I’ve got really good news for you. Ubuntu DDE is a new remix that gives you a Deepin Desktop environment on top of the solid Ubuntu base. And now, you can enjoy DDE with peace of mind, knowing that your personal data is 100 percent safe and secure.

Ubuntu DDE 20.04 LTS User Interface

Ubuntu DDE 20.04 LTS User Interface

Ubuntu DDE uses the Deepin desktop environment 5.0, which is very modern and intuitive. The entire interface looks very glossy. The elements look really good. Especially the transparency and blur effect that these elements have.

It is built using the Qt framework. And this allows you to create this desktop, which is so good to see. The desktop has 2 modes, a Fashion mode that looks like Mac OS. And an efficient mode that looks like the good old Windows 7, but brighter.

The application launcher also has 2 modes. A full screen, and a better one. Deepin Desktop has a side panel that serves as a notification panel and as a control center for the entire operating system. This is very accessible.

Although I would have preferred to have a separate setup app, this side panel thing still works. Most of the icons in the bottom bar here also summon the side panel. The side panel is good for some quick changes, but I really don’t want to see advanced screen scale settings here.

If we had a dedicated setup app here, I think the side panel would be less crowded and the freed up space could be used for other things.

Ubuntu DDE 20.04 LTS Window Animation and Effects

Ubuntu DDE 20.04 LTS Window Animation and Effects

Animation and window effects look good. They are reminiscent of the KDE Plasma desktop. The desktop does not have animations for desktop items. I would have loved to see some cool transitions when the app menu pops up or the sound controls are called.

The desktop looks good in fashion mode. But I liked the efficient mode more. Since the app menu can also be customized with 2 modes here, most people can use the presets here that they like best.

Other than that, there is nothing else. You can do it here in the customization department. However, you can change the wallpaper in the UI (user interface department, it looks good. It has a bit of a futuristic vibe.

I agree that it doesn’t bring anything really new to the scene. But for many people, who just want a desktop environment that’s familiar and simple in design, yet visually appealing, polished, and contemporary, the Deepin desktop is simply stunning.

Performance and Stability of Ubuntu DDE 20.04 LTS

In Ubuntu DDE, the desktop is very agile. First of all, there are very few animation effects on the desktop. And the ones there, like the slider animation in the sidebar, are really fluid. Here is a simple setting that I found really interesting.

In personalization settings, once I turned off the Windows effects, I found that the desktop became much more responsive. Even the sliding of the side panel has suddenly become more fluid. This would suggest for computers that they are rather old.

I really liked how fast the operating system works with window animations disabled, it is much better this way. And it worked very well this way on my old laptop. This also looks good. You can see that transparency and blur effects for the menu, bottom panel, and sidebar are disabled. And honestly, the desktop looks a lot more polished NOW.

In other heavier tasks, like gaming and compilation, you can expect performance similar to that of the main pure Ubuntu. Ubuntu DDE 20.04 LTS is based on Linux kernel 5.4.

Ubuntu 20.04 LTS has shown significant improvements in overall performance in the latest version of LTS. We also have version 440 of the NVIDIA driver here. This controller brings excellent improvements in gaming performance. So Ubuntu DDE is a performance powerhouse.

Ubuntu LTS versions are probably the most widely used Linux distributions in the world at any given time. They are extremely stability-oriented and provide a highly reliable computing environment. Whether it’s for schools or for rolling out super critical, multi-million dollar websites.

Software Availability and Default Software Store

Many of you were waiting for. First of all, let me tell you that we are not getting the Deepin software store here that was responsible for all the controversy over Deepin’s personal data. Instead, we have the Ubuntu software store here, which is absolutely trustworthy.

Out of the box

We are getting a fair amount of essential apps here. For more software, you can download Ubuntu software and software repositories. And Ubuntu has huge, stable and proven package repositories. Almost everything you need can be installed directly from the official Ubuntu repositories in a very fast, convenient and secure way.

We can also use PPAs to get more software. Private software developers themselves maintain PPAs, making them highly reliable.

Personally, I really loved this version of Ubuntu. The Linux community has fairly high standards for user security and privacy. Due to this reason, most Linux users would never use Deepin Linux. Ubuntu DDE allows you to safely experience the Deepin desktop environment and have peace of mind regarding personal data.

I have used beta version of Ubuntu DDE 20.04 LTS to create this article. The stable version will launch on April 23, 2020.
